Lauryl Tryptose Broth is expertly formulated for the detection of coliform bacteria in various water and wastewater samples, ensuring reliability and accuracy in microbial testing.
Product Summary and Explanation
The coliform group encompasses aerobic and facultative anaerobic, Gram-negative, non-sporeforming bacilli that exhibit lactose fermentation, producing acid and gas at 35°C within 48 hours. This group predominantly includes members of the Enterobacteriaceae family, but may also involve other organisms such as Aeromonas spp. These detection procedures are crucial in assessing the microbiological quality of water, food, dairy products, and other materials.
Lauryl Tryptose Broth, also known as Lauryl Sulfate Broth, is crafted based on the original formula by Mallmann and Darby, which demonstrated that buffered tryptose lactose broth significantly enhances the gas production rate of “slow lactose fermenters”. The addition of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate optimally inhibits the growth of non-coliform organisms, allowing for more accurate coliform detection. This product is abbreviated as LTB and is integral to the presumptive phase of the Standard Total Coliform Fermentation Technique, widely employed in the examination of water and food safety.
