Equipped with an intuitive touchscreen user interface, the SMRT46D allows for manual operation while also offering full computer control options through Advanced Visual Testing Software (AVTS) or Relay Test Management Software (RTMS) when connected to a PC. The tester features a large, high-definition, full-color TFT LCD screen that presents clear metered values for AC and DC Amperes, AC and DC Volts, as well as time intervals in seconds and cycles.

One of the notable advantages of the SMRT46D is its customizable testing capabilities. The device can be outfitted with up to three Voltage-Current, or “VIGEN” modules, to tailor its application for specific testing requirements. For example, a configuration with three VIGEN modules enables comprehensive three-phase testing, capable of handling three-phase impedance, directional power, and negative sequence overcurrent assessments for devices needing a three-phase four-wire wye-connected source. With a compliance voltage reaching up to 50 Volts per phase, the added benefit of configuring two channels in series yields 100 Volts for high impedance relay tests.

The SMRT46D supports testing with currents up to 12 Amperes at 600 VA, making it suitable for ground overcurrent relays under challenging conditions. Acceptance or troubleshooting tests can be executed by replaying digitally recorded faults or simulating through EMTP/ATP, adhering to the IEEE-C37.111 and COMTRADE standards.
