Every BD CultureSwab™ tube comes equipped with a polyurethane sponge swab. Once sampling is complete, the swab is returned to the tube, putting the specimen in immediate contact with the medium to keep it moist during transportation.
The BD CultureSwab Plus™ tube offers a 5mL column of Amies gel, maximizing specimen protection and improving the viability of anaerobes. This innovative gel column ensures that the swab remains centrally positioned during transport. With its unique venturi hourglass design, BD CultureSwab Plus™ tubes effectively prevent breakdown of the gel column, minimize bubbles and breaks within the gel, and reduce harmful air pockets that can adversely affect fastidious bacteria.
