TESCOM TC-5062C TEM Cell

The Tescom TC-5062C (TC5062C) TEM Cell is engineered to produce a stable Electro-Magnetic field, perfectly designed for testing small RF devices, including wireless communication receivers, mobile phones, smart watches, and more. This advanced testing solution employs an external test signal through the input port, generating a consistent and predictable TEM test field within the cell. Additionally, the radiation field from a device transmitting within the cell can be effectively detected through a port using a test receiver.

Optimized for medium accuracy measurements, the Tescom TC-5062C transcends the conventional TEM Cell frequency range, which is often limited by cell resonance. Typically, a TEM Cell operates as a 2-port symmetrical device: RF voltage is applied to one port while the other port remains terminated in 50 Ohm, ensuring 50 Ohm characteristic impedance throughout the cell. However, in standard designs, wave propagation ceases beyond certain frequencies due to resonance effects. To resolve this, one half of the cell is constructed with wave-absorbing material, inspired by the G-TEM cell concept. Although G-TEM designs are larger and not ideal for small device applications, the Tescom has adapted this concept and implemented a compact broadband TEM Cell suitable for desktop use.

The E-H field within the test volume is directly proportional to the input voltage and inversely proportional to the cell height, ensuring precise measurement conditions. When a radiating object is inserted into the cell, the emitted waves directed toward the input port are guided through the transmission line and detected with an EMI receiver or Spectrum Analyzer, allowing for quantitative measurement of RFI from the radiating device. This broad functionality positions the Tescom TC-5062C as a versatile tool for applications in the realms of EMI assessment, EMS compliance testing, and receiver sensitivity evaluations.
