While they can also excite Ethidium Bromide (EtBr), the fluorescence intensity is notably less than that of UV light. When utilizing blue wavelength, molecular damage to DNA is minimized, leading to higher downstream cloning efficiencies compared to even brief UV exposure. Moreover, the visible blue light poses minimal risk to users' skin and eyes.

Two Position Filter Cover
Both the E4100 and E4000 models come equipped with versatile amber filter covers. These amber covers are designed to rest securely above the viewing surface and gel, effectively filtering out blue light, thus enhancing clarity for DNA band visualization. The filter cover can be positioned flat for general gel viewing or angled for easier access to gel for band excision. For thorough documentation, it can be completely removed.
Optional Amber Viewing Glasses
Designed for frequent band excision, our E4000-VG1 SmartBlue™ Plus Viewing Glasses efficiently block blue light wavelengths, allowing for crystal-clear visualization of fluorescing DNA bands even without the filter cover. Additionally, these glasses block 100% of UV wavelengths, making them suitable for use with UV transilluminator systems. Available under the “Accessories” section.
Advanced UI Technology
The innovative design features high-intensity LED light plates coupled with a state-of-the-art filter layer, delivering an exceptionally even illumination across the viewing surface. This technology ensures visibility of DNA bands in stained gels, even under ambient lighting. Compared to traditional epi-illuminators that illuminate from the sides, images generated by the SmartBlue™ Transilluminator are brighter and exhibit superior balance.

Outfitted with an array of super-bright LEDs boasting a remarkable service life of 30,000 hours, the SmartBlue™ Transilluminators are designed for longevity. Unlike UV transilluminators, the filters in these systems are durable and will not solarize or diminish in performance over time. The scratch-resistant glass viewing surfaces enable direct excision of gel bands. Additionally, for energy efficiency, the power switch incorporates an automatic shutoff after 5 minutes of inactivity.
