What sets EC Medium w/MUG apart is the incorporation of 4-methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucuronide (MUG), which enhances detection sensitivity. This innovative approach was refined by Feng and Hartman, who introduced MUG into Lauryl Tryptose Broth at a concentration of 100 µg/mL for quick E. coli assays. Further analysis by Moburg confirmed that a reduced concentration of 50 µg/mL could still yield reliable results.
