Intended Use
m-TGE Broth is specifically designed for the determination of bacterial counts using the membrane filtration method, making it an essential component for microbiological analysis in various laboratory settings.
Product Summary and Explanation
m-TGE, or membrane Tryptone Glucose Extract, traces its origins back to the 1930s when Bower and Hucker pioneered a medium aimed at detecting bacteria in dairy products. Following this, Prickett enhanced the formulation with glucose agar containing tryptone for the study of thermophilic bacteria specifically in milk, evolving into what is now known as Yeast Dextrose Agar. In 1948, the American Public Health Association (APHA) endorsed Tryptone Glucose Extract Agar as the standard for testing milk and dairy products, and it has since been adopted for the heterotrophic plate count procedure in assessing bottled water.
The m-TGE Broth serves as a nonselective nutrient medium for bacterial count determination through membrane filtration. It features the same formulation as Tryptone Glucose Extract Agar but is presented as a broth with ingredients at double the concentration, ensuring a rich nutrient environment for optimal bacterial growth and accurate counting.
